Character Portraits: Snout and Bottom!

Snout – Tinker, Prop Maker, Player.

Snout loves Theatre. It has revolutionised how she perceives herself and the world and as such her zeal makes her into a bit of a theatre bore. However it has also meant her talent and graft has transformed her performance. Not so, her patience which is sorely tried with the others not taking it as seriously as she does.

She is cast in a variety of roles and for the Criterion Theatre is playing Lady Macbeth and Witch One.

Snout is played by Francesca Burgoyne.

Bottom – Weaver, Player, Director.

Bottom has been entirely swept up in the play and his character. He sees himself and his destiny in the role of Macbeth and this show is the chance of a lifetime to proclaim himself the Greatest of Actors. This is a big responsibility and he is determined that the play should succeed in the way he envisions – whatever the personal cost to his friends.

He is playing only Macbeth.

Bottom is played by Jackson Pentland.

A extract of Mechanicals’ Macbeth is being performed as part of the Criterion New Writing Showcase at the Criterion Theatre from 2pm, Monday 20th November.

 

 

 

Character Portraits: Quince and Snug!

Quince – Carpenter, Director, Player.

Quince is romantic about the theatre and the process of making a play – but as this play and process is rapidly falling down around him, he’s learning the hard way the deeper graft of theatre. And friendship!

He plays a variety of roles most importantly Duncan and Macduff and for the Criterion Showcase – Hecate.

Quince is played by Owen Clark.

Snug – Joiner, Set Builder, Player.

Snug is a worker and proud of it. Whilst she enjoys theatre and playing, her greatest joy lies in the craft of a build and having it all come together in time. If only her friends would take everything as seriously as she does, they might have a chance of one day presenting a show that doesn’t look as if it’s been thrown together overnight!

She is playing many roles, this includes Banquo for the Criterion Theatre showcase.

Snug is played by Kate Sketchley.

 

 

 

 

Introducing: Tilly Lunken as writer of Mechanicals’ Macbeth!

Reintroducing our writer for Mechanicals’ Macbeth – Tilly Lunken.

Tilly studied Creative Writing/Theatre Studies at the University of Melbourne (First Class Honours) and has an MA in Creative Writing: Scriptwriting at the University of East Anglia (Distinction) (Skillset Approved) where she was the recipient of the Malcolm Bradbury Development Award. She is a graduate of both the Royal Court and Menagerie YWPs and has been mentored through the Little Angel Theatre and Norwich Puppet Theatre.

She is the co Artstic Director and writer of In Souliloquy. She completed the Criterion Writing Program under the tutelage of Greg Mosse where Mechanicals’ Macbeth is being performed in November and is writing a Christmas Show Fran and the Littlest Reindeer. Tilly also teaches masterclasses in writing, devising and dramaturgy for visual theatre and puppetry. She is a member of feminist writing collective Nevertheless She and is co-writing The People’s Rock with them for Vaults Festival 2018.

Introducing: Victorine Pontillon as Director of Mechanicals’ Macbeth!

Franco-American Victorine Pontillon has divided her life between the two countries, and is now settled in London, working as freelance director, filmmaker, photographer and producer. After obtaining her Baccalaureat Litteraire from the Lycée Victor Hugo in Caen, with a concentration in Art History and Theatre, she then returned to the States for a BFA in Theatre Performance from FAU, graduating Suma Cum Laude in 2011, before completing her MA in Acting (International) at East 15 Acting School.

She is an Artistic Director, co-producer and director for In Souliloquy and is also an Artistic Associate of Goblin Baby Theatre Co.

We are delighted to welcome Stewart Briggs as Flute for Mechanicals’ Macbeth at the Criterion New Writing Showcase!

Stewart trained at Bretton Hall. Recent Theatre includes; Rufus in King Cowboy Rufus Rules the Universe (London Theatre Workshop), Old Gentleman in The Railway Children(UK Tour), Prince Charming in Charming Dick (Cockpit theatre), Charles Dodgson in CLD – The Real Lewis Carroll, Badger in Wind in the Willows (Brentwood Theatre),  A Little Night Music (Old Rose & Crown), Twelfth Night (Pentameters Theatre), Newsrevue (Canal Cafe Theatre), Thursford Christmas Spectacular.

Introducing: Owen Clark as Quince for Mechanicals’ Macbeth at Criterion Showcase!

We are excited to announce Owen Clark as

Owen is an accomplished actor who came to London by may of Montreal, Canada. He has performed throughout Europe and north American on stage, screen and film. Macbeth has always been his favourite play.

Owen has worked previously with In Souliloquy and performed Tybalt In Souliloquy with us; we are delighted to have him return and collaborate with us as Quince!

Mechanicals’ Macbeth is being performed at the Criterion New Writing Showcase on the 20th November from 2pm. This is a free non-ticked event but please RSVP for numbers.

 

Introducing: Jeannie Dickinson as Starveling in Mechanicals’ Macbeth at Criterion Showcase!

We are excited to welcome Jeannie Dickinson as Starveling for Mechanicals’ Macbeth at the Criterion Theatre New Writing Showcase!

Jeannie graduated from East 15 Acting school is 2014 where she did the MA Acting course having previously studied Drama at Exeter University.  Since graduating all the projects she has been involved in have been new writing, including a play she co-wrote with her peers. However she has always wanted to do Shakespearean theatre as well, and now working on Mechanicals Macbeth she has got the best of both worlds. She played the title role in an R&D of a new play ‘Ada’, about Ada Lovelace, at the Nottingham Playhouse earlier this year and recently played Eve in 5* reviewed ‘Adam & Eve’ with Broken Silence Theatre Company at the Jack Studio Theatre. 

We have worked with Jeannie on the R&D of Mechanicals’ Macbeth and also for our ‘Shakespeare Shaken-Up’ talk recently where she performed a gorgeous version of ‘Ophelia In Souliloquy.’

Introducing Kate Sketchley as Snug in Mechanicals’ Macbeth at Criterion Showcase!

We are delighted to announce Kate Sketchley will be joining us to play Snug for Mechanicals’ Macbeth at the Criterion New Writing Showcase.

Kate Sketchley trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland after obtaining a BSc in Psychology at McGill University. She is well versed in classical, contemporary and devised work, most recently participating in the development and performance of Shame: A Double Bill, a dance theatre piece at Rich Mix. In addition to acting, Kate is a writer and is currently developing two pieces of her own work.

Kate has worked with us throughout our R&D period on Mechanicals’ Macbeth and performed as Snout for us in Pop Up Shakespeare – Mechanicals’ Macbeth: A Witches Extract. We are so pleased to be working with her again!

Introducing: Jackson Pentland as Bottom in Mechanicals’ Macbeth at Criterion Showcase!

We are excited to announce Jackson Pentland as Bottom in Mechanicals’ Macbeth for the Criterion New Writing Showcase!

Jackson trained at the University of Bristol and the Bristol Academy of Performing Arts. He has toured the UK and Ireland in Much Ado About Nothing (Benedick), The Wind in the Willows (Toad), The Hound of the Baskervilles (Watson), A Christmas Carol (Present/Fezziwig), as well as touring internationally to China in the Jungle Book (Baloo) and Dubai in The Pirates of Dinosaur Island (Major Potts/Lucky Jim). Other roles include Peter Rabbit and Friends (Mrs Tiggywinkle), Danny the Champion of the World (Dad), Anonymous Anonymous (George), The Peregrine (Doroteo), The Importance of Being Earnest (Lady Bracknell), and of course A Midsummer Night’s Dream most recently as Oberon/Theseus but Mechanicals’ Macbeth will be the third appearance of Jackon’s Bottom on the professional stage.

Jackson is also working with us as composer/Musical director.

As a composer and musical director Jackson has worked with Chapterhouse Theatre Company, Blue/Orange, GB Theatre Company, and Second Best Bed for whom he wrote lyrics, composed, and arranged a variety of songs ranging from Schubert-esque ballads to contemporary pop and rock songs. He writes folk and traditional music for Shakespeare plays including a collaboration with In Souliloquy for Et Tu.

Introducing: Francesca Burgoyne as Snout for Mechanicals’ Macbeth at Criterion Showcase!

We are delighted to welcome Francesca Burgoyne to the team as Snout for our Mechanicals’ Macbeth performance as part of the Criterion New Writing Showcase!

Francesca graduated from East 15 in 2014 and has since worked primarily on stage. Recent theatre credits include Emilia Galotti (Countess Orsina), The Wind in the Willows (Mole), Fresh Legs (Ursula), and Three Sisters (Natasha) at the Union Theatre. She recently won the IndieWise award for best actress in the sci-fi short E.M.U and can be seen playing Kate in the web series Coping.

Fran has previously worked with In Soulilouquy as both Lady Macbeth and Snout and we are so exited that she get’s to explore both roles again in a very different way!
